The Best Version of You

The Best Version of You

There are so many things that we want to do with our lives. We all have dreams, hopes, places we want to go, people we want to become. But the hardest part about having a dream is realizing that in order to become the best version of yourself, you have to learn to let go of the parts of you that no longer serve you. The voices that tear you down, the feelings that make you less than, the part of you that you want to leave behind, but still allow to follow you around.

“How we spend our days, is how we spend our lives” (Annie Dillard). The way we move towards our dreams isn’t all at once. It is one foot in front of the other, repetitive actions. It is training your thoughts. Keeping your eye on the prize. Knowing and understanding the why to it all. The same goes if we want to lose weight, get a degree, etc. Nothing happens overnight. You must put the time in, 5 mins, 30 mins, an hour - whatever you can, every single day.

The hardest truth of it all - is that no one is going to do it for you. No one is going to tell you to do anything. No one is going to even notice if you don’t. But you will notice. When I first began to realize that the job I was in wasn’t the job for me, I felt it in my body. Of course I thought about it, and I knew I wasn’t that into it and that my soul wasn’t aligned with it. When you feel an emotion in your body, it becomes so real and so prominent, you feel paralyzed at just the thought of it.

Until you shift your perspective. It wasn’t until I was working out everyday, meditating daily, eating mostly clean, seeing friends regularly and really getting a hold on my day to day life that I stopped focusing on the problem. I stopped complaining to every person that casually asked me how work was going. I started to be grateful for this place I was going to everyday, and everything shifted to work for me, instead of against me.

What you resist, will persist.

Fill your daily life with the bits and pieces that you know will set you up to succeed everyday. Here is a daily mantra I use to remind myself what makes me feel good and work toward my personal best everyday.

In order to take the necessary steps to achieve my dreams, I know that everyday I need to:

  1. Wake up early

  2. Meditate

  3. Get a good work out in

  4. Eat a healthy filling breakfast + cup of green tea

  5. Listen to or read something inspiring

  6. Write
